The Manzini Rotaract Club welcomes you to this blog and we do hope that you will find it both rich and captivating in content.
The Rotaract Club of Manzini is not a very big club.
It only has a small number of active members and it is a small body of determined young people.
It is a new Rotary year indeed which began in June and with that, a new board of directors was elected.
Meet the board and other sub-committees….

We are looking forward to this exciting year. It will or rather it is coming with its own challenges and I think that is part of what builds up the excitement we all have…
This year’s theme is of great importance because we realize that it is essential that Early actors graduate to Interactors, Interactors to Rotaractors and finally to Rotarians. The legacy should live on and members should not outgrow the club: always bring in new members.
“The future of Rotary is in your hands” is this year’s theme and we have a major role to play in society whether in alleviating illiteracy, ill-health, hunger and other social ills in our communities as our DRR so eloquently put it. To those lacking that driving spirit and have lost hope, I say to them that it is not so for passion is energy, so feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you. Changing ones fate is not impossible. The word impossible is peculiar because if you examine it closely, you will find that most of it is made up by the word “possible”. If you have failed to do so, try again for failure is an opportunity to begin once again, this time more intelligently. Our IPP once said that Rotaract is a ‘lecture room’ and in my involvement with Rotaract I have learnt that:
“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his/her future by merely changing his/her attitude.”
The people around you are your greatest resource and no matter how bad it gets, you can rely on them. People should become the change they want to see for the future we so much long for is shaped by the very deeds we perform at this very present moment in time. I am happy that our club is turning 20 next year and we will be having a spectacular event in celebration of this achievement of keeping the club alive and very much active over the years. We have been attending various events this year, some for the first time as a club which were pretty much exciting such as Ryla, Sibebe survivor.

EVENTS
We have been forging and strengthening ties with our fellow Interacters; Inkhanyeti, St Michaels and St Theresas’ Interact clubs all in Manzini. We took our soup packs given to us by Swaziland Poultry Processors (SPP) monthly and gave them to the Interacters so they too can utilize them.
The Interacters then cooked, played, ate and spent their day with children of Mercy Center; a local orphanage in Matsapha. They also donated clothes, toys and we as their mentors were there to assist in any way that we could.
We now have a relationship with the Interacters as we do invite them in our projects and they do likewise, and through this activity we are sharing ideas with one another in as far as what is happening in the communities around us and the projects the clubs undertake. We learn from one another and this helps further our course.
This was made possible by Swazi Poultry Processors (SPP)

The Rotaract Club of Manzini assisted the Rotary Club of Manzini by sorting, labeling, stamping and packing books in boxes getting them ready for distribution since they were in a cargo with the aid of our local Interactors as well.
Sibebe Survivor 09 The Rotaract club of Manzini took part in this year’s 9km walk/hike as to support the course and also enjoy ourselves in the process. Next year we are also planning on attending and being part of
this spectacular in bigger numbers hopefully.
DRR Visits The District Rotaract Representative, Dino Dlamini from Manzini, Swaziland visited clubs around Swaziland. He made one day visits to all the clubs to check on their progress and assist the clubs on areas where they had problems. All clubs were fully prepared I believe ensuring that he had a pleasant visit. We in
Manzini were excited about the DRR’s visit to our club and we ensured he remembered u when he left.
RYLA 09 This was held at the warrior’s base camp (Magoebaskloof) somewhere in Tzaneen from Thursday 27 August till Sunday morning 30 August. It was a life changing experience for most people especially those attending for the first time.
Much was learnt from the lectures which got people to reflect on themselves.
The tasks were challenging and tough on the body and mind. Most or rather all of us left with the famous “RYLA TATTOOS” which are the scratches and bruises but it was a good four days.
LECTURES
Rotarian Rudi Viljoen conducted the lectures. These were from the book by Steven Covey: “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” and these are:
- Be Pro-active
- Begin with an end in mind
- Put first things first.
- Think win win
- Seek first to understand than to be understood
- Synergize
- Renewal/sharpen the saw
